Towards Zero Screening Media Waste to Landfill

Sustainability is central to Mech-Industries’ long-term strategy. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of mineral processing by developing practical solutions that minimise waste, enhance resource efficiency, and support a circular economy.

The mining industry faces mounting pressure to reduce its environmental footprint, driven by stricter regulations, responsible resource management, and rising stakeholder expectations. At Mech-Industries, we believe that used screening media should not become landfill waste but rather a valuable resource that can be recovered and reintegrated into the manufacturing value chain.

Closing the Loop on Polyurethane Screening Media

Polyurethane is a high-performance material with significant residual value at the end of its service life. While many plastics are routinely recycled, polyurethane screening media has historically been discarded after use. Mech-Industries is working to change this.

Our team has developed intellectual property and recovery processes to create a practical, commercially viable recycling model for polyester polyurethane screening media used in the mining industry. We have demonstrated encouraging results that support the feasibility of recovering and reprocessing used screening media.

Building a Circular Economy

Our vision extends beyond recycling. Mech-Industries is developing a value chain that benefits all stakeholders by:

By transforming waste into a valuable resource, Mech-Industries is helping to build a more sustainable mineral processing industry and supporting South Africa’s transition towards a circular economy. Our goal is clear: Zero Screening Media Waste to Landfill through innovation, responsible manufacturing, and environmental stewardship.
